Family School Network – Il nostro viaggio insieme
Questa è la newsletter conclusiva del nostro progetto e, sebbene sia triste che il nostro progetto stia volgendo al termine, siamo tutti molto grati per le opportunità che abbiamo avuto negli ultimi 35 mesi (o giù di lì). Abbiamo iniziato questo progetto all'inizio della crisi mondiale del COVID 19 e nessuno di noi poteva prevedere l'impatto che avrebbe avuto. Quando ci siamo incontrati via Zoom il 1° dicembre 2020 (immagine sotto) avevamo la speranza e la speranza che la pandemia sarebbe finita nel giro di pochi mesi e che una gestione oculata da parte dei nostri governi e degli specialisti della salute ci avrebbe permesso di tornare liberi di viaggiare. Purtroppo non è stato così! Tuttavia, grazie alla determinazione, alla grande leadership, all'impegno e alla professionalità di tutto il nostro team di progetto, abbiamo superato le numerose sfide che si sono presentate e completeremo il progetto in modo completo e puntuale (...con una piccola proroga).
Primo meeting di partenariato tramite Zoom Dicembre 2022
La nostra partnership, nonostante le sfide affrontate, ha fornito alcuni risultati eccellenti e ha ottenuto ottimi risultati, non da ultimo le due mobilità studentesche completate nel 2022. È vero che le cose non sono andate come inizialmente previsto, ma cosa succede? Tuttavia, abbiamo sviluppato le nostre competenze, le nostre esperienze e il lavoro di partenariato attraverso il nostro percorso e credo che tutti noi coinvolti abbiamo maturato una crescita personale e professionale grazie al nostro coinvolgimento reciproco.
Il nostro meeting finale a Roma – Dicembre 2022
Il 5 dicembre 2022 si è tenuto a Roma il nostro incontro finale di partenariato. Sono passati tre anni da quando abbiamo iniziato il nostro viaggio del progetto Family-School Network. Siamo stati felici di avere l'opportunità di essere a Roma in un periodo così bello dell'anno e di incontrare di nuovo, di persona, i nostri amici e colleghi di Italia, Bulgaria, Slovacchia e Irlanda del Nord.
Gli ultimi sei mesi del nostro progetto sono stati indubbiamente molto intensi, con non meno di quattro incontri transnazionali (Bulgaria e Belfast nel giugno 2022, Slovacchia nel novembre 2022 e Roma nel dicembre 2022), oltre all'organizzazione e alla realizzazione della mobilità studentesca a Poprad, in Slovacchia (settembre 2022) e della mobilità studentesca completa a Orte, in Italia (ottobre 2022), che ha visto coinvolti oltre quaranta studenti e insegnanti. Fiuuu!!!
Tuttavia, abbiamo capito che, a causa dei problemi del nostro programma iniziale con la pandemia COVID 19, questo sarebbe stato il caso. Nonostante le sfide, siamo riusciti anche a divertirci!
Il nostro incontro di Roma è stato una brillante opportunità per guardare a quanto abbiamo raggiunto e superato durante il progetto, e questo non è apparso più evidente che quando abbiamo esaminato i video e i messaggi delle nostre famiglie, degli studenti, degli insegnanti e delle scuole. Credo si possa affermare che durante la revisione di questi video sia stata versata più di qualche lacrima in segno di riconoscimento non solo per l'impegno profuso da tutti, ma anche per i messaggi che ci sono pervenuti da studenti e famiglie su come il loro coinvolgimento nel progetto Family-School Network abbia migliorato e influenzato per sempre le loro vite e abbia lasciato in tutti loro il ricordo di un'esperienza fantastica con studenti della loro stessa età provenienti da quattro Paesi diversi. Il nostro partenariato ha dato vita a relazioni eterne e le nostre scuole hanno stretto legami che vivranno ben oltre la durata del nostro progetto; anche se in futuro i partner britannici non saranno più presenti a causa della Brexit, i nostri partner si sono impegnati a continuare a lavorare insieme in futuro - chissà che le future gite sciistiche del Malone College non includano Poprad come destinazione!!!

OUTPUT INTELLETTUALE 1 – Sviluppo di un manuale per gli insegnanti
Il nostro obiettivo:
- Aumentare il numero di famiglie che, a livello europeo, accolgono gli studenti che partecipano a un programma di mobilità
- Formare gli insegnanti, fornendo loro strumenti migliori per entrare in contatto con gli studenti e le loro famiglie
- Rafforzare l'alleanza scuola-famiglia
- Ridurre il tasso di abbandono scolastico
Con il manuale completato e l'utilizzo delle esperienze acquisite grazie al loro coinvolgimento con Family-School Network riteniamo di aver raggiunto l'obiettivo che ci eravamo prefissati, imparando l'uno dall'altro e sviluppando il modo in cui interagiamo con gli studenti, le famiglie e i coetanei, crediamo di aver lasciato strumenti utili che permetteranno alle future generazioni di studenti di intraprendere mobilità finanziate dal programma Erasmus (e da altri) e di impegnarsi in progetti a cui forse non avrebbero mai considerato.
OUTPUT INTELLETTUALE 2 – Piattaforma Digitale e linee guida
l nostro obiettivo è stato quello di creare una piattaforma digitale per creare una comunità online alla quale tutti i partner contribuiranno con testi e traduzioni, video e registrazioni della loro partecipazione alla rete di scuole familiari. La piattaforma sarà il luogo di incontro virtuale per le famiglie coinvolte nello scambio e un luogo in cui gli studenti potranno interagire con i loro coetanei. La piattaforma ospiterà un blog, video, messaggi e avrà un canale di comunicazione. Svilupperemo anche delle linee guida per gli utenti che saranno definite per l'uso della piattaforma.
Durante la creazione della piattaforma, è emerso chiaramente che dovevamo affrontare la sfida di introdurre un nuovo strumento di comunicazione per i più giovani, già sovraccarichi di Facebook, Tik Tok, YouTube, Twitch e altre tecnologie di social media. Abbiamo stabilito che il metodo migliore era quello di utilizzare una piattaforma facile da usare e da gestire e abbiamo scelto SLACK come opzione preferita. Aveva tutte le funzionalità di cui avevamo bisogno e ci ha permesso di proteggere i partecipanti e di gestire i contenuti per garantire che non venissero violate le sensibilità. Sebbene la piattaforma SLACK si sia rivelata utile e abbiamo avuto alcune interazioni brillanti, dopo averla esaminata sarebbe stata una sfida competere con i metodi più familiari di interazione e comunicazione già esistenti nel mondo per i nostri studenti, le scuole e le famiglie. Detto questo, siamo riusciti ad affermarla, a promuoverla e abbiamo alcuni contenuti fantastici da guardare con soddisfazione.
OUTPUT INTELLETTUALE 3 – Emotional Communication Toolkit
Il risultato finale del progetto sarà la creazione di video-storytelling da inserire nella piattaforma, nel sito web e nei link dei social media. Almeno 10 studenti per scuola realizzeranno un video-storytelling sia durante l'anno scolastico sia durante le mobilità LTTA. I video avranno come protagoniste le famiglie precedentemente "validate" e inserite nella piattaforma e saranno visionati dai soggetti coinvolti negli scambi. Gli studenti realizzeranno un video-storytelling sia a casa, presentando le proprie famiglie, sia durante lo scambio, con la famiglia ospitante, supportati dagli insegnanti formati e coinvolti nel progetto.
La nostra IO finale può essere visualizzata sul nostro sito web, sui link dei social media e sul nostro canale YouTube (tutti indicati sopra). Crediamo che sarete d'accordo sul fatto che abbiamo catturato l'essenza del nostro progetto, le esperienze degli studenti, delle famiglie e della scuola e abbiamo realizzato un eccellente IO.
Collettivamente abbiamo raggiunto tutti i risultati intellettuali attesi per il progetto e abbiamo assicurato a oltre 40 studenti l'opportunità di visitare un altro Paese e di sperimentare culture, cibi, attrazioni turistiche, scuole diverse e, soprattutto, di fare nuove amicizie.

Family School Network – Our Journey together
This will be our final project newsletter and whilst it is sad that our project is coming to an end, we are all very grateful for the opportunities that we have had during the last 35 months (or so). We started this project at the beginning of the COVID 19 worldwide crisis and none of us could have anticipated the impact that this would have. When we meet via Zoom on the 1st of December 2020 (image below) we had hopes and aspirations that the pandemic would be over within months and sensible management by our governments and health specialists would allow us to be free to travel again. Unfortunately, this was not to be! However, with determination, great leadership, engagement, and professionalism for our entire project team we have overcome the many challenges presented and will complete the project fully and on time (well…. with a little extension).
1st Partnership Zoom meeting December 2022
Our partnership, despite the challenges faced, have delivered some excellent outcomes, and achieved some very good results not least the two student mobilities completed in 2022. It is true that things didn’t go as originally planned, what does? We have however, developed our skills, experiences and partnership working through our journey and I believe that all of us involved have taken some personal and professional growth from our involvement with each other.
Our final meeting in Rome – December 2022
Our final partnership meeting was held in Rome on the 5th of December 2022. Three full years since we initially set out on our Family School Network journey. We were delighted to have the opportunity to be in Rome at such a wonderful time of year and for the chance to meet again, face to face, with our friends and colleagues from Italy, Bulgaria, Slovakia, and Northern Ireland.
The last six months of our project have been admittedly quite intensive with no fewer than four transnational meetings (Bulgaria and Belfast in June 2022, Slovakia in Nov 2022 and Rome in Dec 2022) as well as the organisation and delivery of the student mobility to Poprad, Slovakia (Sept 2022) and the full student mobility to Orte, Italy (Oct 2022) which seen forty plus students and teachers involved. Phew!!!
We did however understand that because of our early programme issues with the COVID 19 pandemic that this was always likely to be the case. Despite the challenges we did manage to have some fun too!
Our Rome meeting was a brilliant opportunity to look back at what we have achieved and overcome during the project, and this was no more apparent that when we reviewed the videos and messages from our families, students, teachers and schools. I think it is safe to say that during the review of these videos there were more than a few tears shed in recognition of the not only the efforts made by everyone but also in the messages we were getting back from students and families about how their involvement in the Family School Network project had improved and impacted their lives forever and left them all with memories of a fantastic experience with students their own age from four different countries. Our partnership has brought together some everlasting relationships and our schools have made links that will live well beyond our project timeline, even with the loss of the UK partners in the future due to Brexit our partners have committed to continuing to work together in the future – who knows Malone College’s future ski trips might just include Poprad as its destination!!
A quick review of our outcomes and achievements
INTELLECTUAL OUTPUT 1 – Developing a handbook for teachers
Our Aim:
- To increase the number of families who, at European level, welcome students who participate in a mobility program
- To train teachers, providing them with better tools to get in touch with both students and their families
- To strengthen the school-family alliance
- To reduce of the Early School Leaving rate
With the handbook completed and using the experiences gained from their involvement with Family School Network we believe that we have achieved what we set out to do, whilst learning from one another and developing how we interact with students, families and peers we believe we are leaving behind useful tools that will equip future generations of students to undertake Erasmus (and other) funded mobilities and become engaged in projects that perhaps they would not have thought about.
INTELLECTUAL OUTPUT 2 – Digital Platform and guidelines
Our aim was to set up a Digital Platform to create an online community that all the partners will contribute to the platform with text and translations, videos, and records of their participation in the Family School Network. The platform will be the virtual-meeting place for the families involved in the exchange as well as a place for students to interact with their peers. The platform will host a blog, videos, messages, and will have a communication channel (chat?). We will also develop user guidelines that will be defined for the use of the platform.
During establishment of the platform, it became clear that we faced challenges introducing a new communication tool for younger people who were already overburdened with Facebook, tik tock, YouTube, twitch and other social media technologies. We determined our best method was to use and easy to use and manage platform and chose SLACK as our preferred option. It had the full functionality we needed as well as allowed us to protect the participants and manage content to ensure sensitivities were not broken. Whilst the SLACK platform proved useful and we have some brilliant interactions on it, upon review it was always going to be a challenge to compete with the more familiar methods of interacting and communication already out in the world for our students, schools, and families. That being said, we managed to establish it, promote it and we have some fantastic content to look back on.
INTELLECTUAL OUTPUT 3 – Emotional Toolkit
The project’s final output will be the creation of video-storytelling to be included in the platform, website and social media links. At least 10 student per school will make a video-storytelling both during the school year and during the LTTA mobilities. The videos will feature the families previously "validated" and included in the platform and will be viewed by the subjects involved in the exchanges. The students will make a video-storytelling both at home, introducing their own families, and during the exchange, with the host family, supported by the teachers trained and involved in the project.
Our final IO can be viewed on our website, social media links and our YouTube channel (all detailed above). We think you will agree that we have captured the essence of our project, our student, family, and school experiences and delivered an excellent IO.
Collectively we have delivered on all our expected Intellectual Outputs for the project as well as ensuring that over 40 students got a mobility opportunity to visit another country and experience different cultures, food, tourist attractions, schools and most importantly to make new friends.
